# Cyber Security Resources for Small Businesses

As a small business, you may just be crossing your fingers that a wily hacker chooses not to target you but the reality is, for any business, large or small, it's not 'if' but 'when'.  Something as simple as inadvertently clicking on a Ransomware link could cripple your business. It is evident that small businesses do not have the luxury of large security response teams or the budget for having a cyber security consultancy on tap, so they need to be canny and be well-versed on how to protect their business.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is a public sector organisation built on the premise of protecting individuals as well as businesses across the UK, and that doesn't mean just the big businesses with pots of cash.  In 2019, the [NCSC updated their advice to small businesses](https://blog.goworkhorse.com/blog/Response%20and%20Recovery%20guide) on how to plan their response and manage their recovery in the event of a cyber attack.

[The Response & Recovery Plan](https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/collection/small-business-guidance--response-and-recovery) is a 5-step plan for small business to plan for and manage an attack.  Small businesses can also take advantage of the ['Exercise in a Box'](https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/information/exercise-in-a-box)which is designed to help small businesses and local authorities to identify their preparedness for an attack.
